After a recent corporate layoff, I’m searching for a job. I notice that when applying to jobs where the headquarters is located in another state, I am sending my resume into a giant “resume machine” through the company’s website. The protocol seems to be the headquarters will evaluate and send the best resumes to the local offices around the country/world. How can I follow up and find out if if the local office of such a big company has received and is reviewing my resume and cover letter?

An email that they received your chances of hearing back from anyone are probably slim though many companies will send you an email that they received your application.
